Review: Taylor Swift’s “folklore”

This album bangs. There’s no other way to say it. This album is great from start to finish. Go listen to it. Right now. Then come back and read this and agree with me.

I don’t know if I’d call myself a Taylor Swift fan before this album, but I did like some of her other songs and enjoyed her documentary on Netflix. But I never really sought out any T-Swift. This album changed that for me.

The album feels soulful and heartfelt. The songs all feel like they belong on the same album and they are telling a story that I want to keep hearing. I. Love. This. Album.

I’m not a music critic so I can’t tell you how Aaron Dessner’s producing helped her find a new sound or anything. I had to look up who the guy was. But I can tell you that isolation and social distancing and quarantining away from people does help you look inside yourself a bit more often than we perhaps are comfortable with, and this album feels like a look inside someone instead of what someone sees looking out.

A few songs that I love: “exiles”, “betty”, “mad woman”, “the last great american dynasty”, and “august”. But honestly, there isn’t a bad song on here. If you haven’t listened yet, do yourself a favor and go listen to this album. If you can do it by yourself, perhaps taking a walk or hike, I’d do that. You won’t regret it.
